2018-09-01 It Takes a Village

Today Debbie and Larry bravely set out after their brief trial drive the day before.  They managed to navigate and exit to the freeway to Oslo with only one panic moment of are we going the right way? With no time to confer with the navigator, Larry had to make a bold and immediate decision as to left or right at the junction. The navigator was stunned at this decision as well as Larry.  (Luckily, he was correct.)

High anxiety abounded as they entered Norway and customs. Nothing suspicious about an Asian man and a white woman frantically going through the glove box throwing papers in the air. Larry casually took off his sunglasses and turned for a full facial view. Larry rolled down the window and then placed both hands on the steering wheel. Debbie found the proper paperwork and waved them in the air. The guard rolled his eyes and waved them through.  Not too smartly, Larry asked straight ahead? The towering Nordic guard (have you heard of Thor?) nodded his head with another roll of his eyes. They exited customs frantically searching for a way out.  They somehow found a roundabout and shot out of the roundabout onto the exit ramp going 110 km.  (Debbie was yelling “go, go”).  So if the blog is not posted in the next few days, please check with customs.

They continued on to their flat in Oslo.   Debbie and Larry have plenty of room for people to visit them in Norway.

Once Debbie and Larry were settled in the flat, they began looking for the nearby train station.  All they can say is that they took the very long way to the station.  They must have asked 5 people how to get to the station. Finally, they were escorted by one of their new friends.   Then they wandered around looking for how to purchase a ticket.  So with help of many new friends, Larry and Debbie got on the train with a ticket.   Once  the city center train station was reached which is called City center by anyone that you ask but is listed as Oslo Center.  How is this not confusing?  Anyway, they finally ended up with the correct tickets.  The conclusion of which is that It takes a village to get Debbie and Larry to Oslo on the train.

They then caught a tram with their new ticket (Look at them being all exploratory and all).  They went to Vigeland Park.  Cultural Moment:  This  is the world’s largest sculpture park made by a single artist.  The unique sculpture park is Gustav Vigeland’s lifework with more than 200 sculptures in bronze, granite and wrought iron.   There were many statues in that park few with any clothes.  (Debbie and Larry think the statues are cold in the winter).

They successfully made it back on the train with only asking 2 people.

2018-08-31 Changes

The day began on a sad note.   A drop off of Joyce and Jerry at the airport in a ceremonial changing of the guard. (Debbie and Larry got the keys to the car).

Even the sky was crying when Jerry and Joyce left. (It was raining.  Debbie just likes to be a little dramatic). The drive home went surprisingly well considering they were in  someone else’s car in a foreign country and not really sure where they were going.  It was with a huge sigh of relief that they turned into the single entrance neighborhood only to find the road blocked by a huge crane.  Always flexible with money to burn, Debbie and Larry backed down the drive and went shopping at the grocery store. It was time for lunch anyway.  They  purchased many items that would not have been approved by Joyce. By the time that they finished shopping, they were able to get into the neighborhood. They spent the rest of the day preparing for their move to Norway.
