First of Many

August 22nd was Mia’s very first day of school.  She began Kindergarten at the “Big School” aka Terrace Elementary.   We began the day early with Mom and a good breakfast.  There was the obligatory posing for pictures with smiles all around.  The Elsa backpack with optional flashing lights was strapped on and off to school.

Jennifer escorted Mia to class where Jenn was told “You can go now” and dismissed.

A few hours later after school Jennifer picked up Mia from the YMCA.  On the way home several issues were discussed with her Mother.  These included:

  • Lunch is served at 10:30
  • Mia did not like the snacks provided by the Y
  • Strawberries are difficult to put back into a ziplock bag once they come out.
  • Loose strawberries in a lunch kit make a mess

After our kindergartner had eaten dinner and the lunch box was cleansed, her family was given a more complete description of the first day.  The first day was RULE DAY.  They actually call it rule day.  Rules included:

  • No running
  • No shouting
  • No screaming
  • No Crying
  • No Talking
  • No Pushing
  • No SleepingMia first day

They also learned hand signals

  • A “W” for water
  • Crossed fingers on one hand – Bathroom
  • Pointer finger on one hand – Tissue
  • Crossed fingers on two hands – Quiet

The result is that Debbie and Larry are pretty impressed with Kindergarten.  They are excited with the signs and busy signaling each other.  Debbie is especially impressed with the Tissue sign.  She keeps trying to get Larry to give her some tissues and water.  Larry says that is not happening and she wouldn’t need tissues if she didn’t spill the water.  Debbie is also thrilled that there is a “No Sleeping” rule because that implies there might be a place where they don’t have that rule that she could go visit.   Debbie also thinks that it would be good to start all jobs with a “Rule Day”.   Debbie was noticed jumping up and down, chanting “ Rule Day, Rule Day!  And asking Mia to test her on the rules.
