2019-09-26 Romanian Adventure

With Dan’s help, an alternate plan was developed since Charlie was not on the trip. Plan B also known as the “ Romanian adventure”. The group decided to go to Romania, visit Dan’S family and see some sights. (Who says Debbie and Larry are not adventurous?).

First stop was Timisoara. Bet you never heard of that city.

Poor Dan, Debbie makes him spell everything as nothing is spelled like it sounds in Romanian. Debbie’s conversation goes something like this.

“What, what did you say? Could you, could you say that again? Because otherwise people think I don’t know where I am. I have enough trouble with that anyway. When someone asked me what where I am I can’t say I don’t know. My daughter already tracks me on he phone , Larry can get away with not knowing where he is but I can’t. I can’t say I don’t know. So you are just going to have to spell it.”

Don is always very gracious and spells it slowly.

Back to Timisoara, the Romanian revolution against the Soviet Union began here in 1989. Before the group visited the revolution square the group went to the largest Mall food court ever for lunch. (Sorry no pictures. Everyone was too busy looking at the food and eating.) before revolutionary square.

While there, Charlie called us and said that he was going to join the group in a few days. High fives all around.

They. visited several places in Timisoara before traveling on to Dan’s village, Petrni to meet his grandmother Who has some of the biggest chickens we’ve ever seen ever. Everyone stayed in Dan’s house named Cassa Nellie, after Don’s grandmother

Some things noticed about Romania. There were abandoned factories and ugly block buildings which Dan said was the communist architecture. They also saw beautiful churches and gracious people.

Not everything is worked out yet and over an hour was spent driving on winding roads because officials won’t open up a completed highway and no one knows why. (Debbie says curves are not good for here and they need to open that road).
